Expansion Project

The Vietnamese Dominican Sisters of Mary Immaculate Province was canonically established in Houston, Texas in 1978. This community of religious women has experienced wondrous growth and countless blessings throughout the past 28 years. Beginning with a handful of elderly and non-English speaking Sisters, the Community today flourishes to 100 members. And the number continues to grow.

Ministry

The Dominican Sisters are called to serve God and to meet the vast needs of humanity. Their lives are dedicated to the proclamation of the Gospel, through education and health care ministry.

As the Community continues to grow,
St. Catherine Convent, the Provincial house, currently is equipped with a small chapel and sleeping quarters, which are over-filled to its original capacity. In addition, the library is inadequate in accommodating the Sisters’ studies and continuing educational and apostolic needs.

Thus, proper housing and worship facilities are the least the Sisters can offer to those who desire to dedicate their lives in serving God and His people. Furthermore, they also owe their “pioneer Sisters” who have dedicated more than 45 years of faithful service the proper facilities to live the last years of life in dignity.

Capital Campaign for the present needs of expansion

  • Construction of a new chapel seating 160 instead of the current 40
  • Expansion of 20 bedrooms
  • An infirmary building of 10 bedrooms
  • Administrative offices
  • Transformation of the current Chapel into adequate library space for the Sisters’ educational and apostolic needs.
  • Conversion of the present library into a Study and Lecture Hall for continuing education.

The estimated cost of construction and renovation is $2,500,000 (two and a half million dollars). Your generous support, will help to cultivate Religious Vocations and the building of the Kingdom of God here on earth. The Sisters will keep you and your loved ones in their daily prayers as a token of their gratitude.
