On the evening of December 4, 2009, the Vietnamese Dominican Sisters of Mary Immaculate Province thundered heaven with pleas of help and prayers for peace.  Our very own, Mary Immaculate Preschool, the first independent ministry of the Province here in America was devastated by a massive fire.  What started out as a fire alarm alert, in a matter of seconds quickly grew into a fire which engulfed the entire school building for hours.  As many as 30+ fire trucks came in response that night, but with a large lack of water in the area, there was really nothing anyone could do except to watch the school with all the sisters’ memories of ministry burn to ashes. Please see the news link below:

Earlier that day, Houston experienced the gift of snowfall. And the children also had the privilege to watch and play in the snow, many of them for the first time in their lives. We are so grateful to our Heavenly Father that no one was injured, no student had to witness the fearful flames, and no damage was done to our new convent being rebuilt due to Hurricane Ike last year. Although we have lost everything at the school, we continue to experience our Lord’s loving Providence through the prayers, consolations, and contributions from friends and benefactors.  The task of rebuilding the school undoubtedly will be trying and difficult, and we confidently place our trust in God and His Will for us.

Attached is the wishlist for items to re-start our school program.  We humbly and prayerfully ask for your assistance in our long journey of rebuilding up ahead. Each gift, whether large or small will be deeply appreciated.  May God bless you for your generosity.

Sincerely,
Vietnamese Dominican Sisters
